Total Immersion Camp 2008 - Day 2

The specialized classes started here at TIC today. The students were first given a pre-test to assess their English language proficiency. This is to enable the teachers to modify the classes to aid the students to enhance their language skills. In between the classes, there are three breaks that lets the students rest. This is to allow the students to learn in a relaxed and refreshed atmosphere.

There are six meals provided for the students. Breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper. All of the meals are carefully made to provide the students with their daily dietary and nutritional needs. All of the students are provided with mineral water to keep them well hydrated. They are all encouraged to drink more water as one of the various, ‘Healthy lifestyle habits’, programmes that we are implementing in the camp.

The camp not only trains the students to have a healthy mind, but a healthy body as well. In the afternoon, the students are trained in the Korean martial arts, Taekwondo. Taekwondo is not only used for self-defense, but it also teaches endurance and self-discipline. Taekwondo also advocates non-violence, as all students are taught not to raise their hands at others. S. Perallan, a 3rd dan martial arts specialist conducts the classes every Monday to Friday.

In the evening, the President of EWRF, Mr. Pasupathy graced the camp with his presence along with Ms Selvamalar (EWRF). Mr Pasupathy gave a motivational speech about the importance of learning English. He stressed how important a tool the English language is, that one can use as a launching pad. Ms Selvamalar captivated the students with her interesting stories that specially instigated the students to come forth and go towards their goals.
