GREAT SUCCESS -
15/02/2005
The
camp was held from 21 November 2004 to 11 December 2004 at
SJK(T) Vivekananda, Petaling Jaya and was jointly organised
by EWRF and the Tamil Foundation.
A record-breaking
100 students enrolled for this 21 days camp. The objective
of this camp is to create a smoother transition for Tamil
school students entering secondary schools, so that they
exude self-confidence, and are more proficient in English.
hy the need
for such a camp…..you may wonder?
Well… students from Tamil schools despite many drawbacks,
are increasingly performing well in their standard 6 UPSR
examinations.
But, when they enter secondary schools, their performance
suffers and with the introduction of teaching English in
math and science as an education policy has made it more
difficult for them.
The programme aims to create a smoother transition for Tamil
school students entering secondary schools, so that they
develop self-confidence, and are more proficient in English.
More specifically, it will emphasise on the functional use
of the language in order to build confidence among students.
The learning will not be exam oriented, but fun-filled and
activity based.
The informal opening was done by Mr Manar Mannan & Mr
Elanjelian of Tamil Foundation. Ms Subita Nair, Executive
Director addressed the parents and students on behalf of
EWRF.
Report submitted by Madam Subita Nair, Executive
Director of EWRF.
